This week, BSPHO is coordinating the evacuation of four young cancer patients from Gaza, following the Belgian government’s decision to launch a new humanitarian operation in collaboration with the Ministries of Health, Foreign Affairs, and Defence.
Just as in July 2024, when Belgium evacuated four young cancer patients and their relatives via the EU Civil Protection Mechanism (B-FAST) after a request from Egypt and the World Health Organization, BSPHO is once again mobilising its expertise and network to ensure that these children receive timely, high-quality oncological care in Belgium (read more here).
In both operations, BSPHO has taken the lead in organising the allocation of patients across specialised paediatric oncology centres in the country, coordinating closely with national and international partners to provide the best possible care from the moment the children arrive.
This mission continues our long-standing humanitarian commitment. In February 2023, BSPHO coordinated the arrival of four Ukrainian children with cancer – following the reception of an earlier group of ten children in 2022 (read more here).
Our ongoing commitment:
These actions reflect our unwavering dedication to providing sustainable support to vulnerable children living through war in Ukraine, Gaza, and beyond. We remain vigilant and ready to respond quickly, compassionately, and effectively.
