In the past few months BSPHO has been supporting the federal government with the evacuation of childhood cancer patients from Gaza.
Following a request for assistance from Egypt to the World Health Organisation, and through the European Union mechanism for civil protection, Belgium agreed to take care of several medical patients via the B-FAST intermediary.
Four young patients from Gaza, who were already present in Egypt, as well as their close family, were evacuated to Belgium on 29 July, 2024.
BSPHO coordinated the care of the young patients by paediatric oncology centres across the country.
Further evacuations should take place in the coming months as the conflict continues in Gaza. BSPHO continues to coordinate with B-FAST and the federal government on this humanitarian crisis.
