Scholarship

The scholarship aims to support young researchers and fellows by contributing to the costs of:

• Attending international scientific meetings where they have an accepted oral presentation or poster;
• Participating in international workshops or working group meetings in the field of paediatric haematology and oncology.

The scholarship covers:

• Registration fees;
• Travel expenses (to/from the city of the event);
• Accommodation.

Local transportation and meal expenses are not covered.

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

• Be under 35 years of age;
• Be a fellow or PhD student in paediatric haematology-oncology (preferred), or in another specialty while conducting a research project related to paediatric haematology-oncology;
• Staff members are not eligible;
• Have an accepted oral or poster presentation at an international scientific meeting or participate in an international workshop or working group meeting in the field of paediatric haematology-oncology or immunology;
• Obtain a recommendation from a BSPHO member;
• Be willing to:
  • acknowledge BSPHO's support on the presentation or poster;
  • present their work at a future BSPHO Scientific Meeting.

• A maximum of €750 may be awarded per scholarship.
• Each applicant may submit one application per calendar year, regardless of the amount requested.
• A maximum of two scholarships may be awarded to the same individual throughout their career.

Applications must be submitted at least one month before the event.

Applications are reviewed by the BSPHO Board, which decides whether to award the scholarship and, if applicable, the amount granted based on:

• the quality and relevance of the application;
• the available annual budget.

The annual distribution of scholarships aims to ensure fair representation of all Belgian paediatric haematology-oncology centres, proportionally to the number of eligible applications received.

Applicants will be informed of the Board's decision by the BSPHO office.

The scholarship will be paid after the applicant has submitted:

• the original receipts for eligible expenses; and
• a certificate of attendance.

The approved reimbursement will then be transferred to the applicant's bank account.
