BSPHO Scientific Meeting 2025 – Highlights

The first BSPHO Scientific Meeting of 2025 took place on 21 February, featuring presentations from UZA and UZ Gent. The Scientific Meetings offer members and experts the opportunity to learn about the latest developments in paediatric oncology and also exchange insights during a networking session. 

Topics discussed at this Scientific Meeting:

  • Adaptive radiotherapy in pediatric high-grade gliomas – Dr. Toon Van Genechten (UZA) discussed the increase in gross tumor volume in pediatric-type diffuse high-grade gliomas of the midline and the need for adaptive radiotherapy. 
  • Prestin as a biomarker for ototoxicity – Dr. PhD Jaques Van Heerden (UZA) presented on Prestin’s potential role in detecting hearing loss in pediatric oncology patients. 
  • CAR-NK therapy for childhood cancer – Dr. Liesbeth Vanheeswijck (UZA) explored the potential of CAR-NK therapy as a promising future treatment for childhood cancer. 
  • RNA signature as a prognostic factor in AML – Zhiyao Ren (UZ Gent) shared findings on a 69 long noncoding RNA signature that can predict relapse and serve as an independent prognostic factor in pediatric AML. 

The event concluded with a networking session.
