We are pleased to announce the publication of a key policy brief in the Archives of Public Health Journal. This document highlights the urgent needs of children, adolescents, and young adults (CAYAs) with cancer and offers strategic recommendations aimed at improving their care and outcomes.
The BSPHO team is proud to have contributed to the development of this important policy brief.
The policy brief emphasises the specific needs of CAYAs with cancer and calls for patient-centered, multidisciplinary care programs. Key points include:
• Multidisciplinary Care Programs: A review and expansion of care programs for children, with new programs developed for adolescents and young adults. Collaboration between paediatric and adult oncology teams is essential to support the entire cancer journey, from prevention and treatment to rehabilitation and palliative care.
• Precision Medicine Programs: The creation of national hemato/oncology precision programs tailored to the young population, with a focus on rare cancers and cancer predispositions. Infrastructure to support these efforts is a critical need.
This policy aligns with Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan and aims to ensure that young cancer patients in Belgium receive high-quality, effective care.
