The 2nd BSPHO Scientific Meeting of this year took place on 3 October 2025 at the BSPHO office, featuring presentations from leading experts in paediatric oncology. BSPHO’s Scientific Meetings provide a platform for members and specialists to stay up to date with the latest clinical developments and to exchange insights during networking sessions.
This meeting’s topics included:
- BSPHO treatment guideline updates & Belgian Board of Oncology procedures – Dr. Caroline Piette opened the meeting with the latest updates on treatment guidelines and regulatory procedures in Belgium.
- Empowering Evidence-Based Care: Introduction to CEBAM and tools for guideline development – Catherine Petein and Gerlinde Lenaerts presented tools to support evidence-based guideline creation in paediatric oncology.
- Guidelines on fertility counseling and preservation in pediatric and AYA cancers: scientific rationale and practical implementation – Dr. Maria Grazia Giudice shared current strategies and best practices for fertility preservation in young cancer patients.
- Treating ATRT in the First Year of Life: What the Literature Tells Us – Dr. Leen Willems provided a comprehensive overview of therapeutic approaches for atypical teratoid/rhabdoid tumors in infants.
- Implementing EWOG-MDS clinical guidelines for juvenile myelomonocytic leukemia in Belgium – Dr. Claire Geurten discussed practical steps for applying international guidelines in the Belgian clinical context.
The meeting concluded with a networking drink, giving participants a chance to exchange ideas in an informal setting.
