BSPHO adopts new vision including mission statement and strategic priorities

The BSPHO Board has adopted a new vision which includes a mission statement and set of strategic priorities to better reflect the association’s commitment to advancing paediatric cancer care in Belgium. The new vision stems from a series of strategic discussions and key input from BSPHO members.

What is the new vision?

The new vision emphasises the importance of continuing to support scientific research and enhancing BSPHO’s work in clinical trials, to ensure that every child has access to the best possible care and treatment. The Board defined updated priorities to bring this mission to life. These are focused on increasing outreach and communication, as well as stronger advocacy, particularly as we engage in the development of the new national cancer plan. Another aim is to involve more members in the BSPHO’s work, to ensure that BSPHO can fulfil its role as the independent representative of paediatric oncology professionals.

New BSPHO mission statement

As the independent representative of paediatric oncology professionals in Belgium, BSPHO is committed to improving paediatric cancer outcomes and ensuring that all children and adolescents have equal access to the most optimal treatments and care.

We achieve this by fostering scientific research and innovation, facilitating professional development, initiating and coordinating clinical trials, promoting strategic collaborations, and advocating for initiatives that elevate the quality of both science and care.

Why did the Board take this on?

BSPHO made significant progress over the years, particularly in coordinating clinical trials, establishing the National Tumour Board and Scientific Committees, and promoting research. However, the association did not yet have a formally defined mission to guide the work. Recognising the need for BSPHO to fulfil its role to support continued progress in the delivery of paediatric oncology care in Belgium, the Board undertook an exercise to review the purpose and refine the priorities.
