Young BSPHO Symposium 2024 – Highlights

The Young BSPHO Symposium 2024 took place on 22 November at UZ Leuven, with presenters from UGent, CHU de Liège, UZ Gent, KickCancer, and KU Leuven. The symposium focused on the theme "Novel therapies and new techniques in pediatric oncology" and provided an opportunity for members and experts to learn about the latest developments in the field while exchanging insights during a networking session.

The event welcomed a diverse audience, including physicians, biologists, pediatricians, pediatric hemato-oncologists, and researchers.

The program began with lunch, followed by presentations on the following topics:

  • Developing novel CAR-T therapies – Prof. Dr. Bart Vandekerckhove (UGent)
  • Pre-clinical evaluation of novel drug targets in neuroblastoma – Prof. Kaat Durinck (UZ Gent)
  • PRINCESS Project: Preserving fertility and quality of life in Belgian female cancer survivors – Dr. Bianca David (CHU de Liège, site Citadelle).
  • Extracorporeal irradiation in pediatric sarcomas – Prof. Dr. Tom Boterberg (UZ Gent)
  • Multi-omics in cancer research – Prof. Thierry Voet (KU Leuven)
  • Access and rights to novel therapies for children with cancer – Ms. Delphine Heenen (KickCancer)
