The Belgian Society of Paediatric Haematology and Oncology (BSPHO) was founded in 1996 as a collaboration between professionals of the recognized Belgian centers in paediatric haemato-oncology to share expertise and knowledge to improve treatment of childhood cancer and patient care.
About Us
The BSPHO has established interdisciplinary working groups for paediatric haemato oncologists, surgeons, neurosurgeons, radiotherapists, researchers, data managers and paramedics (pharmacists, psychologists, nurses, dieticians, social workers, physiotherapists).
Our Main Goals Are
- To provide the same international standardized high-quality care for all children and adolescents with cancer treated in Belgium
- To encourage collaboration between experts in paediatric haemato-oncology at national and international level
- To advance knowledge of paediatric haematology and oncology by sharing expertise between the recognized paediatric haemato-oncology centers in Belgium
- To take part in international clinical trials and research projects in order to improve the diagnosis and treatment of children and adolescents with cancer
- To support education and meetings at the universities and institutes in Belgium and abroad
- To promote clinical and fundamental scientific research in the field of paediatric haematology and oncology
Our Activities are
- Centralizing preparation and follow-up of clinical trials for all paediatric haemato- oncology centers
- Weekly virtual national tumour board meetings to discuss patient cases and new treatment options including early phase clinical trials
- Regular meetings to update members and paramedics about the latest developments in childhood and adolescent cancer diagnosis and treatment
- National projects in close collaboration with the Belgian Cancer Registry
- Online platform for professionals to exchange information regarding the treatment of childhood cancer
